Lauren, 23, is the founder of Reel Green Media, an environmental consulting company tailored to the needs of the media and entertainment industry. Lauren is connecting the world of production to the physical world through her work as an environmental consultant for the entertainment industry. “I have had some incredible opportunities to speak,” say Selman who tours the country, speaking about green living and working. Her work has been featured on the BBC, in Hollywood Reporter, Business Week, and other media outlets.
About Reel Green Media
After a multi-year study on the environmental impact of the entertainment industry, Lauren founded Reel Green Media as a vehicle to inform and inspire members of the film and television industry to implement green production practices. Reel Green Media also serves as a space to produce green content to provide effective environmental education. In 2009, Lauren partnered with Ambush Entertainment to have a film crew to create a documentary called, Greenlit, following her out to set and film what it meant to have a “green set.” Check out the trailer at: www.Greenlit.org.
The Sustainable Sirens
In the world of print, viral and exhibition media, Lauren teamed up with costume designer, Kresta Lins, to produce a creative campaign about the waste produced on set. The public service campaign entitled, The Sustainable Sirens, features dresses made from the garbage found on movie sets. The project is designed around 6 costumes, each of them inspired by a different department in the film industry. The campaign has been recognized in Racked LA, MNN.com and is featured in the 2010 Creative Handbook.
Staying Lean and Green
Taking care of the planet starts with taking care of yourself. Lauren believes that one of the best places to start “going green,” is taking care of your body. She is a triathlete and marathon runner and is now starting a blog about how to stay in shape and care for the planet because we all know that one of the most eco things you can do is be outside with nature.
