Emily Factor is my new fave EcoDesigner!!!
EMILY FACTOR
Collectible, artistic fashion that uses sustainable methods to tread lightly and create timeless one-of-a-kind pieces.
1. What types of eco-divalicious things do you do in your daily life?
I think that would fall into the food category! I’ll spend the extra money on organic produce and healthy food at natural markets. It totally pays off because I feel good and have the energy to get thru the day.
2. How do you apply being an EcoDiva (some one who is stylish and cares about the environment) to your business?
My business is based on the idea that we shouldn’t take from our planet without giving back the same amount, if not more. It’s the harmonious way to live and feel good about what you are doing. There’s enough industry that just takes and creates more hazard.
3. What made you decide to get into Eco-design? And what makes your work special?
It’s been a lifelong development. I have studied and worked in the fashion industry for over 10 years. I have also been fortunate to grow up in really natural environments like coastal California and Santa Fe. So both of these things have welded together. In my life, nature and design are my passions and it’s wonderful to find different ways to combine them.
4. What fun, fabulous and fashionable tips do you have to share with other EcoDivas and EcoDivas-in-training?
Having a textile background I love to cover objects with fabric. It’s a great way to revamp stuff you have that you might otherwise get rid of. Lamp shades, shoes, old books, table tops… it’s limitless, creative and a great alternative to trashing those things.
5. (To help alleviate eco-anxiety – no one can do everything, but everyone can do something) What’s one thing you can’t quite give up or change to be more eco (yet)?
I love shoes. There are a few great eco footwear lines like Olsen Haus and Terra Plana, but I can’t help sometimes buying a pair of gorgeous heels that are not so ‘green.’
I love Emily’s designs! They seem so “free” floaty and flirty too! I’m in the estate liquidation biz and I love to see the gals/guys come in to buy/recycle some of the vintage styles we have to pass along. Old clothing doesn’t have to be “vintage” either; sometimes these creative young people buy an item that is just a great fabric, texture or weave…they re-dye, re-cut and recreate it into an item that’s just fabulous. It is truly remarkable what Emily can “re-make” into a fun and often fantastic new look for some hip chick to wear!
I’m so impressed with Emily’s creations! I’m in the estate liquidation biz and I truly enjoy some of the hip young people coming in to buy/recycle some of the older clothing that we have to pass along…they re-cut, re-dyd and recreate these items into fantastic wearable art! She’s my new favorite Recycle Maven!
